Global Assessment of Responsible AI in Cities – Research and recommendations to leverage AI for people-centred smart cities

The Global Assessment of Responsible AI in Cities offers a comprehensive analysis of how cities worldwide are adopting and governing AI to address complex urban challenges. It highlights the benefits, challenges, and opportunities AI presents for urban environments, informed by a global survey and case studies. The report identifies critical capacity gaps, particularly in Latin America, Africa, and Asia (Global South), where half of the surveyed cities lack AI governance initiatives. Emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and local governance, the report provides actionable recommendations for the responsible, inclusive, and people-centered use of AI in cities.
