The Forest of the Zaragozans

Launched in 2021, the "Bosque de los Zaragozanos" is a long-term, large-scale reforestation and urban–periurban naturalization initiative in Zaragoza, Spain. Its core ambition is to establish a continuous 1,200-hectare forest around the city by planting 700,000 trees—one for every resident. This vision pursues multiple interconnected goals: enhancing environmental health, bolstering ecosystem services, promoting community well-being, and helping Zaragoza achieve its climate‐neutrality targets.
