Topic:  Strategic Settings for City Transitions: Leveraging Policy Labs, Regulatory Sandboxes & Studios for Climate Success

By the end of the module participants will:

    • Explore the concept of mission-driven policy innovation (MDPI) and the role of policy labs, regulatory sandboxes, and studios as strategic tools for accelerating city climate action. 

    • Identify common policy and regulatory barriers impeding urban climate transitions and understand how experimental policy settings help address complex, systemic challenges. 

    • Analyze practical city examples demonstrating successful application of these policy settings, including stakeholder engagement, governance arrangements, and outcomes. 

    • Develop initial plans to apply or advocate for such innovative policy settings within their own cities, considering enabling conditions and stakeholder involvement. 

    • Distinguish when traditional policy approaches suffice and when experimental settings are most valuable. 

Who is this session for? City technical and political representatives from non-mission cities, municipal policy advisors, urban planners, sustainability officers, and stakeholders interested in accelerating climate transitions through innovative policy instruments.
