Module 2 - Spotlight session 3: Citizen engagement for systemic climate action

When: 9 October 2025 | 13:15 to 15 CET

Duration: 1 hr 45 min

In this interactive session, we’ll dive into three game-changing themes: how to professionalise and systematise citizen participation, how cities can step into their role as true enablers, and how governance systems can earn legitimacy and trust that lasts well beyond election cycles. Through vivid case studies and real-world stories, you’ll see how cities are making this happen — including inspiring insights from Gothenburg and Košice as they share their journeys, challenges, and breakthroughs. Come ready to spark ideas and discover practical ways to make citizen engagement a driving force for systemic change.

By the end of the module participants will:

  • Learn about the different roles cities can play in citizen engagement - enabling action, hosting transition governance processes, or establishing professional and systematised participation practices.
  • Learn from real-world examples of Mission Cities and explore the enabling conditions for effective, long-term engagement.
  • Gain access to practical tools that support designing strategies to build lasting relationships with citizens and stakeholders.
