Glasgow City Council launched its 'Greenprint for Investment', a portfolio of investment projects designed to give a significant boost to the city's target to reach Net-Zero by 2030. The project is a mix of market-ready opportunities for private capital and radical "unlock and scale" projects developed to appeal to activist investors seeking co-design and longer-term economic partnerships. The projects include scaling up the Clyde Climate Forest by 9,000 hectares, a Glasgow Metro connecting the city region, a city-wide retrofit programme to make all homes energy efficient and provide new clean energy sources, and a proposal to power district heating systems using the River Clyde - all of which will contribute to Scotland's target reduction targets. The scale and diversity of the projects reflects and supports Glasgow's global sustainability ambitions and provides international and activist investors with a mix of decarbonising and transformative development opportunities as well as more traditional robust, investor-ready propositions. The cost of decarbonising and adapting Glasgow is estimated to be in the tens of billions of pounds, requiring restructuring the very systems on which the city depends, from energy to food, housing to mobility, and finance itself. A n indicative estimate of the financing needs for the UK's Core Cities and London by the UK Cities Climate Investment Commission puts the central estimate at £200bn.
